4. Business Blueprint

What is this section?

This document is the official Business Blueprint for Smartup Zero. It defines the economic models—both external and internal—that will ensure the long-term sustainability and independence of the Onlife platform and the Smartup organization. It is the primary responsibility of the 3_4_business_team.

  • Attacker (A): The members of the 3_4_business_team are the "attackers" who research, model, and propose these economic systems.
  • Defender (D): The 4_1_4_tc_business_team (the Team Captain) is the "defender," responsible for reviewing the models for viability and mission alignment.
  • Midfielder (M): The Engelbot automates the tracking and reporting of our internal economy via the ledger.log.

1. Mission Summary

Our mission is to design a sovereign business model that ensures the Onlife platform's permanent independence from shareholder capitalism, while simultaneously building and managing a fair, transparent internal economy that properly values all contributions to the Smartup.

Part 1: The Onlife Sovereign Business Model (External Focus)

This section defines our strategy for making the Onlife platform financially self-sustaining without compromising its core mission.

2.1. Philosophy: Public Good over Private Profit

The Onlife platform is critical digital infrastructure for civil defense. As such, it cannot be owned or controlled by entities driven by a profit-motive, which would inevitably lead to mission drift. We explicitly reject business models based on venture capital, data monetization, or individual user fees.

Our model is designed for one purpose: to fund the perpetual development and maintenance of a free, open, and accessible public utility.

2.2. The Core Model: Public Utility & Ecosystem Licensing

Onlife will be financed through a B2G (Business-to-Government) and B2O (Business-to-Organization) licensing model. We sell valuable capabilities to the institutions responsible for public safety, while the platform remains always free for citizens.

The "Customers": Knowledge & Implementation Partners

Our partners are not traditional customers; they are co-stewards of public safety. * Public Sector: Municipalities, regional governments, and national civil defense agencies. * Humanitarian Sector: NGOs like the Red Cross/Red Crescent, and other disaster relief organizations.

The Value Proposition

For a predictable license fee, these partners receive the right and the ability to manage the Onlife ecosystem within their jurisdiction. This includes:

  • Plugin Registry Control: The ability to define which Plugins are available to citizens in their area during a specific crisis.
  • Customization: The ability to pre-load plugins with localized data (e.g., shelter locations, evacuation routes).
  • Direct Communication Channel: A resilient method to broadcast verified information to citizens when all other networks fail.

How It Works: The Istanbul Scenario

  1. The City of Istanbul pays an annual license fee to the Onlife Smartup.
  2. The Turkish Red Crescent has developed a sophisticated SOS Triage Plugin (as a partner within the Smartup).
  3. Istanbul's disaster plan dictates that in an earthquake, the Red Crescent's Plugin is automatically pushed to all Onlife Groups in the city.
  4. Citizens use a world-class, trusted tool. The Red Crescent gets their software deployed. Istanbul fulfills its duty of care. The Onlife Smartup gets the funding it needs to maintain the core platform.

2.3. The Strategic Vision: From Utility to Standard

Our business model is designed to evolve as the platform's adoption grows.

  • Mid-Term Strategy (The Next 5-10 Years): Achieve Sustainability. Our goal is to onboard enough government and NGO partners under the licensing model to make the Smartup fully financially independent and self-sustaining. This phase proves the utility and builds a powerful coalition of support.

  • Long-Term Vision (The Endgame): Become a Mandated Open Standard. With a proven track record and a strong coalition, our ultimate goal is to work with partners like the European Union to have the Onlife Protocol mandated as a standard safety feature in all mobile operating systems sold in Europe. At this point, the business model would evolve from selling licenses to providing certification, consulting, and maintaining the open standard, funded by sustaining grants.

Part 2: The Smartup Zero Internal Economy (Internal Focus)

This section defines the systems we use to value and reward the work of the contributors who build and govern the Smartup. This is the responsibility of the Business Team to manage, research, and continuously improve.

3.1. Philosophy: Rewarding Contribution, Not Capital

Our internal economy is designed to be radically meritocratic. Value is allocated based on verifiable work and community trust, not on the amount of capital invested.

3.2. The Dual-Currency System

We use two distinct forms of internal value to capture the full spectrum of contribution.

Smartup Credits (SC): The Currency of Work

SC is the mechanism for fairly compensating tangible work.

  • Definition: 1 Smartup Credit (SC) represents a 1 EUR claim on the Smartup's cash treasury.
  • Earning: SC can only be "minted" by completing a task with a pre-approved SC bounty.
  • The Ledger: All SC transactions (mints and burns) are immutably recorded in a public ledger.log file in our Forgejo repository. This is our single source of truth.
  • Redemption: When the treasury has sufficient cash from revenue or crowdfunding, "Redemption Windows" are opened. SC is redeemed for EUR on a First-In, First-Out (FIFO) basis, rewarding our earliest contributors first.

Smartup Karma (SK): The Currency of Trust

SK is a non-monetary currency that measures an individual's reputation and positive impact on the community.

  • Definition: SK is reputation that cannot be bought or transferred.
  • Earning: SK is awarded for actions that build the community: high-quality code reviews, mentoring junior members, successfully proposing and passing governance votes, and resolving disputes.
  • Utility: A high SK score is required to unlock leadership positions (like Team Captain) and can provide additional weight in certain governance votes.
  • Decay: SK has a slow monthly decay, ensuring that influence remains with those who are actively contributing to the community's health.

3.3. Treasury Management and Fiscal Controls

The Business Team is the steward of the treasury, governed by strict, transparent rules.

  • The Bank: All cash funds are held with Open Collective Europe, providing full public transparency on income and expenses.
  • The Golden Rule: To maintain the value of SC and prevent hyperinflation, we enforce a strict fiscal policy: Total Outstanding SC will never exceed 3x the cash held in the treasury. This rule is enforced automatically by our CI/CD pipeline, which will block any new SC minting that would violate the cap.
